@wild-cherry  haha, this is great!

I have to say Vino and Oceano were my two top favorite boards I had the privilege of riding last season .

I've never seen this done before

That's the idea!

There will have to be some fluff content in there too but I want each reel to be different and stand out from the same old stuff.  So many "influencers" in this genre just post the same thing every day; same run with different music and a different jacket...  It's challenging to keep things new and always changing, especially because I only have two tricks: toeside and heelside.

Three minutes is the max reel length and also the max for YouTube Shorts.  We squeezed this in just under the limit.  There will be some five and ten second reels too, I'll produce those when I get busier in the winter and have less time available.

I did try a looping short a few years back:

Me too!  The G5 being my other favourite.  I might have kept Oceano but I promised it to @parkcityguy in February because I was expecting the next proto right away and he was booting out his C4 166 somethin' fierce.

We learned a lot from these two boards, I have high expectations from the next batch.  Cores are done, it'll be a 175 with a 300mm waist, one goofy two regular boards.

I have some good footage of you riding Oceano @slayermtb, saving it for another reel though.  I only have one run captured with a rider on Vino, unfortunately.  It's Jasey when he was riding it switch stance (regular)  I'll take a closer look, maybe there's one or two turns I can use but he specifically asked me not to publish it...  It's really quite incredible what he can do in a switch stance, but if you didn't know he's goofy, you might not be impressed.

This one is kinda weird, I know.  No actual snowboarding in it at all.

I figure it's a way to introduce myself as a carving instructor to new followers on IG.  Just demonstrating that I've been making instructional videos for years.  Maybe they'll search them out, maybe not, but it establishes my history to some extent.

The tray drill was left out intentionally, there will be a brand new "Carving Drill" series next season but I'm gonna film it from scratch.

I really liked the keep your shoulders level one! I think that could be a series with other often repeated phrases

Hmmm...  Maybe maybe.  That would kind of have a certain humour to it...  And my AI has transcribed all my instructional videos now so finding the phrases is easy.

"Drive with the hips"?  What else do I say all the time?

@wild-cherry crunch the obliques?
You should have sound bites for almost all of the nine elements from the secrets of carving?

Maybe it’s possible to do something with the J-turn too?

Hold a tray and don’t spill the beer etc could be combined into one with the same message using different analogies

This was a half a run filmed by a new friend on a cloudy day with an insta360 X3.  I processed the footage with the Topaz AI Starlight Model.  It looks a little over processed maybe.  Thoughts?  I might be able to process it further and make it look more natural...

Pretty smooth riding though eh?  That's the Big Snowboards G5!  If I had a pro model it would be the G5 but renamed "The Wild Cherry".

@wild-cherry The reels are looking great, James. Really cool seeing other riders like Jasey and SlayerMTB bringing their own unique style to the carve.

I like the bigger turns you are making on the G5 in the last reel.  I had another carver tell me I make the C4 look like it has a 7m sidecut lol

Right?  These boards are designed for higher edge angles (because that's where the fun begins).  So a 12m radius board at 75 degrees can make similar size turns as an 8m at 40 degrees - except at faster speeds with way more g-force!

People are sometimes intimidated by the 12m number but you can't really compare it to production boards and it's easy to handle.  12m is just right for the C4 with the long effective.  The G5 is only about a 13.5m sidecut, the bigger turns are on account of the steepness of that run and the fact that this board can handle a whole lot of edge pressure so I was moving pretty fast.

You have a very unique style yourself there, @lake-m-carver.  On heelside in particular.  It seems that you like to keep your front leg mostly straight on heelside initiation and lean pretty far back too.  It looks cool, you just lean kind of over and let the board catch up with you later.  It's almost like the polar opposite of the Asian style where they're knee to chest on heelside, bent over real low and weighting the nose.

Jasey kind of does something like this on heelside too, but he moves the hip forward toward the nose to keep more pressure there.  This is a common technique among racers.  He also has more bend in his front knee so he's driving more through the turn versus your more balancing version.   But in both cases you guys get way ahead of the board down the fall line and kind of let it come up under you at the end of your heelsides.  (I'm not sure Jasey would agree with this assessment, he's done tons more technique analysis than I have and understands so many subtleties that still mysteries to me - every time I think I'm starting to understand he just raises the bar.)

I learned a lot this summer working with all these riders' video, frame by frame.  I've been educating myself too about the different Asian styles.  A YouTube video on style is pending...

Really like how Jasey does that little side-hop racer scrub before going into a carve. When I try it on steeper runs it definitely helps. kind of like a “cheat code” to get the board started when you don’t have much speed.

Heelside has always been tricky for me. Honestly, half the time I just throw my body downhill and let the board catch me, like a trust fall, lol. None of my style has really been intentional yet; I’m still new, learning, and just going with whatever feels good and works.

I think the straight-leg on heelside comes from compensating for a leg issue. Earlier in the season I was riding with more bend on both heel and toe, but once that shin pain kicked in, riding straighter felt less painful.

Next thing I want to dial in is crunching away from the snow on toeside. I still reach down too much, but dragging both hands through a carve is just too fun lol.

That style video sounds intriguing!

I tried a 360 lol It didn't work. Probably not gonna post it, but it was kinda funny.

@lake-m-carver "Trust fall" is a great way to describe it!

When you bend away from the snow on toeside you increase the edge angle and increase the board grip too so you actually get lower with more g-force and can still drag both hands.

Can you make that second video "unlisted", that way anyone with the link can see it.  It's "private" now, only people that you manually list can see it.

Yeah that 'trust fall' is wild. It seems like the weightless transition is extended/exaggerated by not weighting the front... then the whole edge simply hooks up.
