I think the Insano is a lower volume boot... and yeah, I generally loosened it to relieve the pressure over my instep.  I wish they had designed it with a thicker insole so that there was more room to adjust.

The Vans Verse just fit my feet a lot better.  They came with a thick insole that I actually swap out for a custom orthotic.  The downside is that they don't really have an articulation point and they really break down.  I got a new pair this year that I'll ONLY use for serious carving, and use last years for everything else.
